Rainy Day Derby

We had tickets (and more importantly: OUTFITS) for the Shepherd Center's Derby Day fundraiser yesterday. It was out at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, and we were really looking forward to it! Andrew's law firm has some tickets each year, and we were sad to miss out last year.

Well...if you live anywhere in Georgia, then you know what the weather was like this weekend. It could not have been any less perfect for an outdoor event. Windy, raining, and in the mid-50s! Sad. We waited a little while to see if it looked like the weather might improve, but alas -- we decided it was a no-go. However, I was going to wear my specially purchased hat somewhere.

One of our favorite restaurants has a Derby party each year at their Vinings location. It wasn't quite the same as being out at the track for full-on festivities, but it was inside and offered unlimited pimento cheese with the price of admission. Sold.

Even though we were disappointed about not getting to go to Derby Day, the Plan B was pretty fun too! We had mint juleps and prosecco juleps, aforementioned pimento cheese and other tasty appetizers, and a comfy booth from which to enjoy the race.

In the race, I picked Overanalyze (a horse after my own neurosis), and Andrew picked Revolutionary. We also got to draw a horse name out of a cup at the restaurant for a chance to win a gift certificate. And wouldn't you know it...Andrew had Orb! He won us 20 bucks. Thanks, Orb!

The best part -- aside from being warm and dry -- was that we got to keep our booth and stay for a nice dinner afterwards. Not too shabby for a rain plan!

Have a good week! ;)
